Life is good in so many ways. It’s full of opportunities for fulfillment, joy, connection and growth, all waiting to be discovered and experienced. But life can also have periods of pain, disappointment, sadness, and hopelessness, and those times can leave us searching for relief, unsure how to find our way out of the anguish. If we try to protect ourselves and avoid pain, we often end up isolated and alone. On the other hand, if we choose to take risks and be vulnerable, we can experience great joy, but also great heartache. Despite our best efforts, our choices and mistakes can leave painful reminders of wounds inflicted, hopes dashed and trust betrayed. Fear and grief become overwhelming and constant, and we withdraw, lash out, or find unhealthy ways to avoid the pain. None of these responses help in the long run and often make things worse.
In times of suffering, sometimes what is needed most is a listening ear, a new perspective, and a generous helping of compassion, acceptance and hope. It also helps to know you aren’t alone. I believe that sharing your burden may give you space to gain a new perspective on what is getting in your way, clarity to know what you can and should change, and determination to approach your situation differently and more effectively. You may find it helpful to have someone walk beside you as you face painful and difficult circumstances. Ultimately, my goal will be to help you find clarity, hope, and courage to work through challenging times to live a life unconstrained by the mistakes of the past or doubts and fears about the present.
